ROLLA, Mo. – Carl Miltun (Gilbert, AZ/Williams Field), who captured medalist honors at the Great Lakes Valley Conference Championships last spring and a part of Missouri S&T’s golf team that finished in a tie for eighth at the NCAA Division II Championships, will go after another significant championship next month as he will take part in the United States Amateur Championships in Parker, Colo.

Miltun earned a spot in the national event when he finished in third place at a qualifying event held in Florence, Ariz., on July 20 and 21, as he shot a eight-under-par 136 in the two-day event.  Miltun posted a six-under 66 in round one, then had a two-under-par in the second round to make the cut for the national tournament by one shot.

The U.S. Amateur Championships will take place at Cherry Hills Country Club and the Colorado Golf Club beginning on Monday, August 14 with a total of 312 players from across the nation in the field.  The first two rounds will consist of 18-hole stroke play, with the top 64 players qualifying for match play that will begin on Wednesday, August 16.

The field will be narrowed in half in each subsequent round until the final two competitors square off in a 36-hole championship match on Sunday, August 20.  The tournament will be broadcast nationally on Peacock, the Golf Channel and NBC when match play begins on August 16.

Miltun finished the 2022-23 season as a second-team All-America selection by PING and the Golf Coaches Association of America, as he averaged a score of 71.3 shots in his 33 rounds of play.  He recorded the lowest score in GLVC history with a 203 at the GLVC Championships, finishing 13 shots under par and winning the tournament by 10 strokes to set new conference standards in those categories.

He would go on to finish fifth at the NCAA Central/Midwest Regional and concluded his season with a tie for 14th at the NCAA Division II Championships.  Miltun would also earn additional honors as he was selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-America team and as the GLVC’s Scholar-Athlete of the Year in men’s golf.
