Cantlay wins the BMW championship
Patrick Cantlay entered Sunday atop a leaderboard filled with major champions but fell behind by two strokes during the round. His composure and world-class shot making propelled him back into the lead when he birdied the 17th hole, and he had a short par putt to seal the tournament on the final hole. With the win, Cantlay also became the first player to successfully defend a title at a FedExCup Playoffs event, doing so in front of a sold-out crowd at Delaware’s first PGA TOUR event.
“Thanks to everyone who made this such a special experience,” Cantlay said. “The fans and volunteers were amazing, and this golf course provided great theater. There was great energy all week.”
Cantlay’s -14 narrowly edges our Scott Stallings at -13. Also in the mix was Scottie Scheffler and Xander Schauffele at -11 and KH Lee, Adam Scott and Corey Coonners at -10.Earlier today,
Viktor Hovland recorded a hole-in-one on the par-3 2nd hole, resulting in BMW’s donation of the sixth BMW Championship Hole-in-One Evans Scholarship. The full, four-year tuition and housing scholarship worth $125,000 will be awarded to an Evans Scholar in Hovland’s name later this year.
